The Altron group has posted strong results for the six months ended 31 August 2008, notwithstanding the high base established in the first six months of last year. Revenue has increased by 19% to R13.2 billion and operating profit by 25% to R1.1 billion.
Altron’s headline earnings per share grew by 12%, while adjusted headline earnings per share increased by 15% - removing the effect the amortisation of intangibles arising from the group’s recent thereby providing a more meaningful picture of the underlying trading performance.

Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) today announced remarkable half-year results for the period ended 31 August 2008. Revenue increased by 13% to R4.5 billion, the company’s operating profit increased by 34% to R409 million and headline earnings per share was up by 19% to 261 cents. Altech Chief Executive Officer, Craig Venter commented that the company’s continued strong balance sheet and net asset value of 1 974 cents underpinned the group’s expansion strategy, with notable progress in several areas having been made during the half-year, particularly in Africa.

The Altron group reflected record results for the year ended 29 February 2008 with revenue increasing by 25% to R21.4 billion and operating profit increasing by 27% to R1.9 billion. Headline earnings per share grew by a commendable 33% over the high base established in the prior year. This performance was based on all three of its operating companies, Altech, Bytes and Powertech performing strongly with Altech increasing its headline earnings per share by 23% and Bytes and Powertech growing headline earnings by 23% and 39%, respectively. In line with its earnings growth, the group declared a dividend of 156 cents reflecting an increase of 32% over the prior year. This provides shareholders with an effective doubling of the dividend over the last years.

Revenue increased by 22% to R 8.2 billion, and operating profit by 17% to R 664 million.
